Russia's Ruling Party, Subsoil Use Agency Open Geological Classes in Africa

During the International Congress "Africa Seeks Solutions," which took place in Russia on December 10-15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the country would help Africa gain independent control over the extraction and development of their resources.
Russian ruling party "United Russia" and the country's Agency for Subsoil Use are opening geological classes in Africa, the first geological "Karpinsky Class," named after Russia's geologist Alexander Karpinsky, has opened in the capital of Ghana, the party reported.

"'United Russia' and [the country's] Federal Agency for Subsoil Use are opening geological classes in Africa. The experience of the Russian geological school is in demand abroad today, according to the project managers. The first geological "Karpinsky Class" was opened in the capital of the Republic of Ghana, the city of Accra," the party said in a statement.

The classe was opened by the head of the agency head, Evgeny Petrov together with representatives of the Ghana's Culture Ministry with the support of United Russia.
"The project is implemented on the basis of partner educational and training centers dedicated to geosciences as part of the promotion of the Russian Geological School abroad," the press service said.

Russia to Cooperate With Sierra Leone in Mineral Exploration, Environment Minister States
According to the party, the operator of the project is the All-Russian Scientific Research Geological Institute named after Karpinsky, headed by General Director Pavel Khimchenko.

"Our specialists will share their professional experience, conduct internships and joint field work. Students will be able to get acquainted with the history of Russian geological science, its current state and achievements. For a wide audience, feature films and documentaries on geological topics will be demonstrated, the exhibition projects and the open library fund will be presented," Khimchenko said.

He also said that in the near future "Karpinsky classes" will be opened in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa and other countries.

"Russian geological school is in great demand abroad. I am sure that the Karpinsky classes will be opened in many friendly countries, which will create an additional mechanism for scientific support of joint projects in geology and subsoil use," Khimchenko noted.

Earlier, at the "Africa Seeks Solutions" Congress, the Russian Foreign Minister expressed his country's readiness to help Africa gain independent control over the extraction and development of its resources.
During the congress, an agreement was signed on the creation of a consortium of technical universities from 42 countries, "Subsoil of Africa."
