MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russia's work under its BRICS presidency will be dedicated to a fair world order, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.
In a world order based on rules, in fact, there are no rules, they change depending on the political situation, Putin told a press conference.
"As for a world order based on rules, there are no such rules, in fact. They change every day depending on the current political situation and the short-term interests of those who talk about it," he noted.
Russia will be the first country to chair the expanded BRICS in 2024, after the bloc's summit in South Africa in August invited six new states to join the grouping from January 1, 2024. Putin said that his country will seriously prepare for the holding of the BRICS summit in Kazan in October 2024 in a broader format.
"In the upcoming 2024, Russia will have to perform a number of important foreign policy functions," the Russian leader said earlier this week. "In general, we intend to do everything possible to enhance the role of the association in addressing topical issues on the global agenda, make efforts to strengthen comprehensive strategic partnership within the framework of BRICS, develop cooperation in economic, financial and other spheres."
On Thursday, President Putin held his joint "Direct Line" question-and-answer session and annual press conference, where he answered questions from journalists and citizens as part of the "Results of the Year with Vladimir Putin" program.
