In July, Russian President Vladimir Putin assured that African countries would receive Russian grain and fertilizers despite the termination of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which provided a humanitarian corridor allowing exports of grain over the past year. Putin said Russia intends to send free grain to six African countries.
Russia, as part of the initiative to send grain free of charge to countries in need, anticipates dispatching 200,000 tons to Africa by the end of the year, the Russian Ambassador to Turkey Alexey Yerkhov said in an interview with Turkish media Daily Sabah.
"Russia proposed an initiative to deliver wheat free of charge to the poorest African countries. We expect 200,000 tons of grain to be sent by the end of the year. Two ships already departed some days ago to Somalia and Burkina Faso. Additional shipments to Eritrea, Zimbabwe, Mali and the Central African Republic are expected to follow soon," the ambassador said.
The ambassador highlighted that "despite the efforts of the UN, there are still no results on the revival of the grain deal."
"Our part of the package is at the zero level. Efforts are deployed by the UN, but they are fruitless. The problem lies in the fact the West continues to impose and keep sanctions on food and fertilizers from Russia," Yerkhov added.

Russian Grain for African Countries to Be Transported to Turkey by 40 Ships: Reports
Addressing the issue of a temporary corridor organized by Ukraine for the export of grain, he stated that Kiev "has the right to export grain by road, railways, rivers, and so on," and "all the risks are on them."
Following the expiration of the Black Sea Grain Initiative on July 18, and Russia not renewing its participation due to unfulfilled components related to facilitating Russian grain and fertilizer exports, a significant portion of the supplies redirected to affluent European states instead of African nations. President Putin subsequently declared Russia's intent to deliver grain to six African countries as part of humanitarian aid.
On November 20, a diplomatic source in Ankara told Sputnik that Turkey expects to resolve issues related to the processing and delivery of Russian grain to African countries in need by the end of the year.
Earlier in November, the first two ships with wheat for Somalia and Burkina Faso departed from Russia.
