A virtuoso known to piano lovers and a People's Artist of Russia, Denis Matsuev is an indispensable participant in major music festivals and a regular partner of leading symphony orchestras in Russia, Europe, North America and Asia.
Honored Russian pianist Denis Matsuev performed a recital in front of a packed Capitol Theatre in Singapore, according to The Straits Times, the country's local newspaper.
"Despite the relative lack of publicity, Capitol Theatre was filled to the rafters for his 80-minute concert performed without intermission," the media noted.
Matsuev, accompanied on stage by bassist Andrei Ivanov and drummer Alexander Singer, "thrilled the packed hall with improvisatory flair and jazz detour," the outlet stressed.
The musician opened the concert with a 45-minute series of encores - short pieces usually played after the main program.

The pianist also performed improvisational reinterpretations of the art of recognized musical masters such as Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Moshkovsky, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and other honored musicians.

The second part was a surprise for the audience, as the concert included performance by a jazz trio with a recital including works by Grieg, Matsuev, Ivanov and Gershwin, a Sputnik correspondent reported.
He added that among the guests of honor at the event, organized with the support of the Russian-Singaporean Business Council, were representatives of Russian and foreign government agencies, the business community and cultural figures.
The concert received positive feedback as the audience called Matsuev a great artist and maestro and remarked Singapore added a "special magic" to the musical event, the correspondent said.
Matsuev last performed in Singapore in 2014 as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra under Russian conductor Valery Gergiev.
