MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Following the unprecedented attack by Hamas against Israel on October 7, the country declared a state of war and launched counter-attacks on the Gaza Strip. On October 14, Israel announced its plans to expand the offensive in the region, with a focus on a ground operation.
Israeli authorities expand the evacuation program to 14 additional areas in the north of the country, the Israeli Defense Ministry and Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Sunday.
"The 14 communities added to the [evacuation] plan are: Snir, Dan, Beit Hillel, She'ar Yashuv, Hagoshrim, Liman, Matzuva, Eylon, Goren, Gornot HaGalil, Even Menachem, Sasa, Tziv'on and Ramot Naftali," a joint statement by the defense ministry and the IDF read.
On October 7, Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing and seizing people in neighboring Israeli communities. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people, cutting off supplies of water, food and fuel. The blockade was later eased to allow trucks with humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
According to the latest data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the death toll in the Gaza Strip as a result of Israeli strikes has risen to 4,385, including 1,756 children. In Israel, the death toll stands at over 1,400 people.

UN Agency Says Will Run Out of Fuel Critical for Humanitarian Response in Gaza in Three Days
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) will run out of fuel needed to provide humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip in three days as a result of Israel's blockade, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said on Sunday.
"In three days, UNRWA will run out of fuel, critical for our humanitarian response across the Gaza Strip. Without fuel, there will be no water, no functioning hospitals and bakeries. Without fuel, aid will not reach those in desperate need. Without fuel, there will be no humanitarian assistance," Lazzarini said in a statement.
He urged all parties to the conflict and "those with influence over them" to allow fuel supplies into the Gaza Strip as soon as possible and to ensure that fuel is strictly used to provide the population with humanitarian aid.

Cairo Peace Summit Fails to Adopt Joint Statement Due to EU's Position on Hamas, Germany Says
Participants of the Cairo Summit for Peace have failed to agree on a joint final statement due to the European Union's intention to condemn "the brutal terror by Hamas" as a main cause of the current crisis in the Middle East, the German Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
"A wide group of states met in Cairo. We know that our views on the conflict differ .... It is not surprising that there was no joint statement. As important as it is for the EU and for us to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe, it is equally important to clearly condemn the brutal terror by Hamas as the trigger of the crisis," the ministry said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

China's Special Envoy Urges UN to Hold Large-Scale Summit on Palestinian-Israeli Conflict
Chinese Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun has called on the United Nations to urgently convene a more influential and larger-scale conference than the Cairo Summit for Peace to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
On Saturday, the Cairo Summit for Peace took place in the Egyptian capital with the participation of over 30 states, including China, and a series of international organizations. The meeting ended without a joint statement.
"The United Nations should facilitate the early convening of a more authoritative, more influential and larger-scale international peace conference," Zhai was quoted as saying by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
He also said that the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict had once again proved that the Palestinian issue could not be ignored or forgotten. The envoy expressed certainty that the two-state solution, meaning the creation of an independent Palestinian state, could be a way out of the conflict.

Moscow Calls for Developing Collective Strategy to Settle Palestinian-Israeli Conflict
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov on Saturday announced the need to urgently start agreeing on a strategy of collective action to address the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
"Along with addressing the urgent tasks of ending the current spiral of violence, there is an urgent need to start agreeing on a strategy of collective action for a political settlement of the conflict, which has been promoted in the past by a quartet of international mediators comprising Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations," Bogdanov was quoted by the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying at the Cairo Summit for Peace.
It is impossible to freeze the conflict at the stage of low intensity, the senior Russian diplomat stressed.
"The parties must break the vicious circle of violence, give up unilateral steps, including the settlement takeover of Palestinian territories and the undermining of the status of Jerusalem's holy sites," he added.
Russia is now making intensive efforts to de-escalate the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone, Bogdanov said.
