Lebanese health authorities are taking measures to enhance the preparedness of healthcare facilities to cope with any emergency situations, acting Lebanese Public Health Minister Firass Abiad told Sputnik on Thursday. The Lebanese Shia movement Hezbollah has been exchanging airstrikes with Israel in recent several days. The authorities have been working on maintaining peace in the country after the Israeli-Palestinian conflict broke out, acting Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has said. In addition, the ministry has set up an emergency coordination center involving all groups working in the health sector to ensure optimum use of resources, he added.It is of utmost importance to make sure that hospitals are ready to take in injured in case of an attack on Lebanon, the minister said.On October 7, Israel was subjected to a massive rocket bombardment from the Gaza Strip. According to the Jewish government, radicals fired more than 3,000 rockets, and scores of terrorists invaded southern Israel border regions. Since then, the Israeli military has dispatched troops to retake the southern regions from militants.In response to the Hamas military operation, the Israel Defense Forces began Operation Iron Swords, directed at Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In a speech to the nation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel was at war and that he had ordered a complete mobilization of reserves.
