Tens of thousands of people rallied across France on Friday after the General Confederation of Labor called for a day of strikes and protests against persistent social inequality and the high cost of living, media reported. Some 92,500 people protested across the country, including 9,100 in Paris, according to the French Interior Ministry's estimates seen by the BFMTV channel. The confederation put the total at nearly 200,000. Protesters in Paris carried banners calling President Emmanuel Macron the "president of the rich." Others demanded higher wages and an end to wars and soaring inflation. A Sputnik correspondent reported clashes, with protesters smashing shop windows. Police had to step in.
