MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The latest Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which erupted over the weekend, continues into its fourth day. Both Israel and Palestine have reported hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries as a result of the escalation.
Israeli forces have entered the West Bank city of Nablus, the Palestinian Quds news portal reported on Tuesday, adding that armed clashes are taking place in the area.
On Saturday, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian movement Hamas, launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip. More than 3,000 rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel, marking the deadliest offensive Israel has seen in 50 years.
In response, Israel declared a state of war, carried out airstrikes against Gaza, killing hundreds of Palestinians and destroying many buildings, and placed the Palestinian enclave under a complete water, electricity and food blockade.
The death toll from both sides has exceeded 1,300, including foreign nationals.

WHO Says Working on Creation of Humanitarian Corridor Into Gaza as Supplies Depleted
GENEVA, October 10 (Sputnik) – The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently working on creating a humanitarian corridor into the Gaza Strip as all supplies previously distributed in seven hospitals in the region have already been depleted, WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic said on Tuesday.
"A humanitarian corridor is needed to reach people with critical medical supplies and WHO will work with partners on this," Jasarevic told a briefing.
In Gaza, WHO is providing support, supplies and previously delivered training of health workers and response planning, he added.

US Aircraft Carrier Transfer to Middle East Increases Risks of Conflict Expansion – Moscow
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The transfer of the US aircraft carrier strike group to the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea to the shores of the Middle East increases the risks of involving new parties in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday.
Earlier in the week, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that the United States, amid the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, is sending the US aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford strike group to the eastern Mediterranean and strengthening aviation units in the region. The aircraft carrier strike group, in addition to the aircraft carrier itself, includes a missile cruiser and four destroyers that carry guided missile weapons.
"All this really raises suspicions that the situation is developing along the path of escalation and the risk of involving third countries in this conflict. And this is fraught with long-term and very serious consequences both for the region and for the world," Zakharova told a briefing, commenting on the transfer of the US aircraft carrier group to the Middle East.
