The Israeli-Palestinian conflict entered a new phase of escalation when the Palestinian militant movement Hamas launched a massive surprise attack against Israel on October 7, prompting Israel to declare a state of war the next day.
The Palestinian militant group Hamas has confirmed the death of Economy Minister, Joad Abu Shmalah and Zakaria Abu Maamar, a political office member.
An Israeli aircraft carried out a strike that killed Hamas' economy minister, Joad Abu Shmalah, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Tuesday.
"Overnight, an IDF aircraft struck Joad Abu Shmalah, the Hamas Minister of Economy in the Gaza Strip. As part of his role, he managed the funding of terrorism inside and outside the Gaza Strip. He held security positions in the terrorist organization and led a number of operations targeting Israeli civilians and the State of Israel," stated IDF.
On Sunday, Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel. Later, the Israeli army's press office reported that more than 3,000 rockets had been fired from the Gaza Strip. The next day, Israel declared a state of war.
On October 9, Israel announced a full blockade with no food, gas, or electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip. Both Israel and Palestine have reported hundreds of dead and thousands of injured due to the escalation.
