In April, Turkey's interior minister recalled that the country has been fighting the terrorist threat for more than 40 years, but the risk of the emergence of a "terrorist state" near the country still persist as long as the US is actively involved in the region.
There was an attempted terrorist attack near the ministry building in Ankara: one of the terrorists blew himself up, the other was neutralized, the head of the Turkish Interior Ministry said.
"At 09:30 [06:30 GMT] two terrorists in a car in front of the entrance gate of the Interior Ministry's General Directorate of Security carried out an explosion. One of the terrorists detonated himself, the second was neutralized," Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said.
Two police officers were slightly injured in the skirmish with the terrorists, he added.
Earlier, Turkish media reported that an explosion and gunfire were heard in the center of Ankara.

“An explosion was heard in the Kizilay district in the center of Ankara. It is alleged that the explosion occurred near the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The roads around were closed to traffic. The presidential guard arrived,” the TV channel said in a statement.
