TEHRAN (Sputnik) - The remarks by Iran's defense chief came during Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu's visit to Tehran for talks with the country's military leadership
The situation in world is developing in such a way that Iran and Russia have all the prerequisites for creating a lasting and strong alliance, Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad-Reza Ashtiani said on Wednesday.

"[The situation in world is developing in such a way that] all the prerequisites have appeared for creating a strong and strong union [between Russia and Iran]," Ashtiani said.

Cooperation between the two countries will lead to peace and stability in the international arena, the minister added.
A day earlier, a Russian delegation headed by Sergey Shoigu arrived in Tehran for talks with Iran's military leadership. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the visit will enhance Russian-Iranian military ties and will be an milestone in the development of cooperation between the two countries.

During the visit, Shoigu noted that cooperation between Moscow and Tehran is reaching a new level, and the countries intend to implement the entire set of planned activities despite opposition from the United States and its allies.
"We aim at implementing the entire range of planned activities, despite opposition from the United States and its Western allies. Sanctions pressure on Russia and Iran shows its futility, while Russian-Iranian interaction is reaching a new level," Shoigu said at a meeting with Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad-Reza Ashtiani in Tehran.
The Russian minister also expressed readiness "for further joint actions in the field of strengthening stability and security in the Middle East," adding that the Russian-Iranian dialogue is developing especially intensively today.
"The high dynamics of the meetings confirm the general commitment to the further strengthening of the strategic partnership in the defense sector and military cooperation," Shoigu said.
Last month, an Iranian military delegation led by the commander of the ground forces of the Iranian military, Kioumars Heydari, visited Moscow to discuss bilateral defense cooperation.
