Gabon Holds Military Parade to Honor 'Transitional President'

A military takeover occurred in Gabon last week when the armed forces ousted the recently re-elected President Ali Bongo Ondimba and proclaimed the head of the Republican Guard, General Brice Oligui Nguema, interim leader.
Gabon's capital Libreville hosted a military parade to mark the inauguration of the 'transitional president', General Brice Oligui Nguema, following the coup on August 30.
Nguema took the oath of office on Monday and pledged to respect the republican regime in the country, proposing to adopt a new constitution for the country at a referendum.
In addition, the new head of state promised to preserve the values of democracy, the independence of the homeland, the integrity of the territory of Gabon and the national unity of the country.
General Nguema appeared at the honoring ceremony, which was attended by over 1,000 people, accompanied by his associates and his wife. More than 20 foot columns and motorized vehicles marched through downtown Libreville.
