Sudan's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has made his first public appearance outside army headquarters in Khartoum since the conflict erupted in mid-April, according to media reports. On Thursday, the general arrived in Port Sudan from the city of Atbara in River Nile State, northeastern Sudan. Earlier in the day, he visited the country's second most populous city Omdurman. The Sudanese military released videos of al-Burhan carrying a weapon and inspecting soldiers in several areas in Omdurman.Local media, citing sources close to the army, reported that al-Burhan will likewise embark on a tour to Egypt and Saudi Arabia for talks with the leaders of the countries. The trip is expected to be his first foreign visit since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan. On April 15, violent clashes broke out between the Sudanese Army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF paramilitary force, led by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo. Since then, the parties to the conflict have declared a series of temporary nationwide ceasefires, but none have helped to resolve the conflict. The United Nations has put the death toll from the fighting in hundreds. According to the organization, more than 4.5 million people have been displaced since the conflict began, especially in Khartoum and Darfur.
