Japan and Zambia signed memorandums on the development of cooperation on mineral extraction, as well as the creation of related infrastructure, the Japanese Economy Ministry has said. The documents were signed during the visit of Japanese Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura to Zambia. Japan and Zambia additionally agreed to promote the development of human resources, infrastructure and supply chains that are relevant to mineral production. The agreements put emphasis on the projects for copper, nickel and cobalt mining. On Wednesday, Nishimura, during his visit to Angola, signed an investment agreement with the African nation.

In late April/early May, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida embarked on an African tour to strengthen ties with the continent, visiting Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique.
Japan and Zambia signed memorandums on the development of cooperation on mineral extraction, as well as the creation of related infrastructure, the Japanese Economy Ministry has said.
"The sides agreed to work together to provide essential minerals needed for energy transmission and counter economic security risks; work on projects that benefit both parties by ensuring equal access to information, mutual visits and technical cooperation," the ministry said in a statement on Friday.
The documents
