MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Earlier this week, a strike drone of Ukrainian military moving in the direction of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (NPP) was intercepted in Energodar, the Russian security agencies told Sputnik.
International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said on Thursday that a Ukrainian strike drone that had been intercepted over the city of Energodar had no impact on the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP).

"The IAEA experts were informed by ZNPP that a drone was spotted and intercepted near Energodar on 9 August, but this was not related to ZNPP, the neighbouring thermal power plant or the city. There was no impact on ZNPP’s safety, and the IAEA experts confirmed that they did not hear or observe anything at the plant," Grossi said in a statement on the website.

Grossi added that the IAEA experts at the Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, and South Ukraine NPPs and the Chernobyl site heard several nationwide air-raid alarms the day before.
"The teams all reported that the safety and security at the facilities was not affected," the director general said.

Ukrainian Drone Targets ZNPP Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility - Russian Security Forces
The Russian security agencies told Sputnik on Wednesday that a strike drone of the Ukrainian military, moving in the direction of the ZNPP, had been intercepted in Energodar. The security forces later said that the drone attempted to attack the ZNPP's spent nuclear fuel storage facility.
Yevgeny Balitsky, acting Governor of the Zaporozhye Region, said earlier in an interview with Sputnik that all scenarios for protecting the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) from a possible attack by Ukraine have been worked out, a powerful defense has been built.

“We see such a threat, and we are working out all the possible scenarios that crazy drug addicts from Bankova [Street] may have [...]. There are special units ready for different scenarios: a landing along the coast, a breakthrough by a sabotage group," Balitsky said.

He said a powerful line of defense has been built along the entire coastline.
"Approaches are mined, along the entire perimeter we have a powerful three-layer defense line," Balitsky said.
