On Thursday, the Sudanese army shelled parts of Omdurman, Khartoum's twin city, according to Western media. Despite the army's ousting of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) from Khartoum on Wednesday, the RSF maintains control in parts of Omdurman and has consolidated its presence in western Sudan, effectively dividing the country.
The RSF stated it had never lost a battle, but had "strategically repositioned" to secure military objectives. The conflict continues, with reports of RSF shelling army positions in al-Fashir, Darfur.
The war displaced over 12 million Sudanese, and left half the population facing severe hunger, according to the UN. A study estimated about 61,000 deaths in Khartoum state alone during the conflict's initial 14 months.
