The Zimbabwean government on Tuesday called on private companies to generate their own electricity in a bid to ease the strain on the national grid.
Speaking at a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare, Minister of Energy and Power Development July Moyo highlighted an increasing trend of businesses setting up their own power plants amid ongoing electricity shortages.

Moyo emphasized that by producing their own energy, these firms are not only reducing reliance on imports but also enhancing the country’s overall power supply, which is critical for attracting foreign direct investment.
The minister also encouraged farmers to invest in renewable energy sources such as solar and biogas, citing their cost-effectiveness and potential to address energy challenges sustainably.
