Gabon and Equatorial Guinea launched a hydroelectric interconnection expected to save Gabon approximately $3 million annually, according to the media.
The project was launched on February 22 by Gabonese President Brice Oligui Nguema and his Equatoguinean counterpart Teodoro Obiang Nguema.
The leaders simultaneously cut the symbolic ribbon and then lit the lamps on the Gabonese side by pressing a button.
With a total capacity of 10 MW, the interconnection will eventually supply energy to the entire Gabonese province of Woleu-Ntem, as well as the cities of Mitzic and Minvoul.
