Equatorial Guinea's energy sector, rich in oil and natural gas potential, faces declining production due to under-investment and a lack of new discoveries; in 2022, the country's oil production fell below 100,000 barrels per day, according to OPEC data.
Equatorial Guinea is interested in Russian investments in the energy and mineral sectors, Deputy Minister for Hydrocarbons and Mining Domingo Mba Esono said during a conference on cooperation between Equatorial Guinea and Russia.
"Our ministry welcomes the entry of Russian companies into our market and, for its part, is ready to provide them with the necessary information," he said.
The minister recalled that the USSR and Equatorial Guinea actively cooperated in various fields and noted that Russian companies are showing increasing interest in the country at the present stage. He mentioned the projects of the Russian state-owned multinational energy corporation Gazprom in Equatorial Guinea and spoke about the proposals of Russian companies to carry out geological exploration works to find mineral deposits.
