At least 27 migrants have been found dead off the coast of Tunisia near the Kerkennah Islands, according to media reports.
Tunisian authorities rescued 83 other migrants, originating from various sub-Saharan African countries, following a maritime incident. Five of the rescued individuals were transported to Slim Hadhri hospital for treatment.
According to Zied Sdiri, regional director of the Sfax Civil Protection Department, a total of 110 migrants had embarked on two boats attempting to reach the Italian coast.
The number of fatalities is expected to rise, as search and rescue efforts continue.
