Cuban President Receives Russian Deputy Prime Minister Chernyshenko in Havana

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel held talks in Havana with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko to discuss a meeting of the co-chairs of the Russian-Cuban intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific, and technical cooperation.

They also explored further areas of bilateral work, the Russian diplomatic mission in Cuba said in a statement.
"President... Miguel Diaz-Canel received Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko. During the meeting, the results of an earlier meeting of the co-chairs of the Russian-Cuban intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation were discussed," the Russian Embassy said on Telegram.
The sides at the talks outlined the main areas of versatile bilateral cooperation in the spirit of strategic partnership, noting the need for further consistent work.

Moreover, Russia is ready to supply 80,000 tonnes of diesel fuel worth $60 million to Cuba to help the Caribbean island nation deal with the post-hurricane energy crisis, Chernyshenko said.
"At the instruction of our President Vladimir Putin, Russia is ready to provide emergency assistance to brotherly Cuba in view of the situation in the energy sector, which would include the supply of around 80,000 tonnes of diesel fuel within the limit approved in accordance with the president’s instruction of $60 million," Chernyshenko said at a meeting with Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas.
Chernyshenko is in Cuba on an official visit. He is expected to co-chair the Russian-Cuban Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, and to attend a religious service in a Russian church.
Earlier, the deputy prime minister visited Venezuela, where he met with President Nicolas Maduro and took part in a meeting of the 18th intergovernmental Russian-Venezuelan high-level commission.
Cuba has been plagued with massive power outages caused by two devastating hurricanes that have lashed the country since October. Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, Barbados and Russia were among the countries that offered assistance to Cuba.
