Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the country's constitution, stating that he will not seek to extend his term beyond 2028, according to Patrick Chinamasa, the ruling ZANU-PF party's secretary for legal affairs.
This comes despite a proposal from members of the ZANU-PF party to extend his tenure to 2030.
Speaking during the ZANU-PF National Annual People’s Conference on Saturday that President Mnangagwa had personally assured him of his adherence to the constitutional term limits.
"His Excellency said he had a hand in crafting the current Constitution […] I met him three times, and he said he has no wish to extend his mandate beyond 2028," Chinamasa told the audience.
