South African President Satisfied With Russian BRICS Chairmanship

BRICS is an intergovernmental organization established in 2006. Russia's 2024 presidency of BRICS began with the joining of new members. Adding to Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, it now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia; the latter yet to formalize membership, although participating in BRICS meetings.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is very pleased with Russia's chairmanship of the BRICS group for 2024, the leader's spokesman, Vincent Magwenya, who is part of the delegation to the BRICS Summit in Kazan, told the Russian media.

"President Ramaphosa is very pleased with the way the Russian Federation is leading the BRICS during its chairmanship. The way the leaders interacted at the Kazan Summit reflects the true spirit that unites the BRICS family," he said.

At the summit's closed-door meeting on Wednesday, Ramaphosa said the BRICS bloc should be an effective instrument for peace and progress in the world. He added that the recent expansion of the organization was a beacon of hope for the global south.
