Israel-Palestine Escalation
Israel was hit by an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip on October 7, with Hamas movement's troops infiltrating border areas. On October 8, the Israeli government announced that it had invoked Article 40 of the Basic Law, which means the country was officially in a state of war.

Slovenia Reportedly Calls for Ban on Arms Exports to Israel

The prime minister also said that although the embargo itself would not be a solution that would lead to deescalation in the Middle East, the ban on arms supplies is still being discussed along with other measures.
On Tuesday, Israeli media reported that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin sent a letter to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, threatening to impose an arms embargo on Israel if the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip is not resolved within a month.
On Wednesday, the Axios news portal reported, citing sources, that Israeli officials vowed to quickly improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Israel is counting on German arms supplies that the Jewish state needs, according to Foreign Minister Israel Katz.
"We expect Germany to supply the weapons that Israel needs. Germany has a special responsibility for Israel's security, and now is the time for that," Katz said in an interview with the Welt newspaper on Wednesday.
Katz declined to answer whether the Israeli Foreign Ministry has information about new supplies from Germany. He also declined to comment on how the Israeli government reacted to the fact that Berlin called on Israel to sign documents stating that genocide will not be committed with German weapons.
The foreign minister recalled that Israel is providing Germany with the Iron Dome air defense system worth about 4.5 billion euros, the report said.
"We are not talking about a large number of weapons, but they should at least be equivalent. We supply Germany with much more weapons than Germany should supply to Israel," he added.
Earlier on Wednesday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, following media reports about the actual freeze on arms supplies to Israel, said that Germany would continue to supply weapons to Israel, and the Jewish state could rely on Berlin in this matter.
On Sunday, Bild reported that Germany had not supplied arms to Israel since March, adding that Berlin required written assurances that German arms would not be used "for genocide." The decision to suspend weapons delivery had been criticized by the opposition. Bild later reported that Israel signed this document.
