Ethiopian Foreign Minister Taye Atske-Selassie has expressed his belief that the BRICS framework is poised to play a significant role in efforts to achieve fair representation in global institutions.
During a meeting of BRICS foreign ministers held on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York, Atske-Selassie highlighted the growing expectation that BRICS will contribute meaningfully to reforming global governance and ensuring equitable representation for all nations.
The Ethiopian diplomat emphasized the need for ongoing reform efforts to ensure that multilateral institutions are inclusive and strong.
He also stressed the importance of prioritizing African representation in the UN Security Council reform, advocating for a solution that addresses historical injustices and ensures fairness.
The minister highlighted the importance of considering geographical diversity, shared values among BRICS members, and the UN Charter principles in the reform process. He believes these principles will bolster BRICS's contribution to achieving fair representation in global institutions.
