Since Hamas militants launched an attack on Israel from Gaza on October 7, 2023, the situation in the Middle East has deteriorated sharply. In response, Israel has launched an operation to dismantle Hamas, and the fighting continues in Gaza, resulting in widescale destruction.
The UN is becoming increasingly powerless to ensure security in the Middle East, particularly in the Gaza Strip, Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Senegal Yassine Fall told French media.

"The genocide [of the Palestinians] continues, and this barbarity against Gaza must stop," Yassine Fall stated, adding that Senegal's support for the Palestinian people is now stronger than ever.

The minister also pointed out that African countries need to negotiate with the UN with a view to granting the continent permanent seats and veto power in the UN Security Council.

Russia to Support UN Security Council Expansion Involving India, Brazil and African Country
In August, Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio announced a demand for Africa to be given two permanent and two non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council after the body was reformed. This measure would "correct a historical injustice and allow Africa to unleash its full potential as a dynamic, viable continent that can make a significant contribution to peace and security on the planet," the African leader noted.
