The inaugural Russia-Tanzania Environmental Forum took place in Tanzania's capital, Dar es Salaam, organized by the Russian House in the country.
Over 130 participants attended, including 15 speakers from both countries, comprising biologists, ecologists, wildlife photographers, and representatives from national parks and research institutions.
Key Russian speakers included Andrey Podoplekin from the Federal Research Center for Integrated Arctic Studies and Olga Kharkova from the "Clean Seas" Foundation. They discussed their work and potential collaborative projects with Tanzanian partners.
During the forum, Russian Naval Deputy Chief of Staff Rear Admiral Leonid Sukhanov highlighted Russia's commitment to environmental security in his address.
Marine biologist Ekaterina Kalashnikova presented a unique lecture on her recent expeditions studying whales and dolphins in Tanzania.
The forum also featured a wildlife photo exhibition, an ecology-themed quiz game, and the screening of Richard Magumba's film "Fahari yetu" on preserving marine biodiversity in Tanzanian waters.
This forum marks the beginning of an annual series on environmental topics organized by the Russian House in collaboration with research centers from both countries.
