At Least 40 Police Officers Reportedly Injured During Protests in Kenya

The Kenyan government decided to implement tax measures in response to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) request to decrease the budget deficit from 5.7% to 3.3% of the GDP. This led to widespread protests around the country, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries.

A minimum of 40 police officers were hurt during protests in Kenya, while nine police vehicles were damaged, local portal Citizen Digital reported on Friday, quoting Central Regional Commander Tom Okoth.
It was previously reported that 11 people were injured in the city of Homa Bay in western Kenya during anti-government demonstrations. Some of them received gunshot wounds.
On Thursday, local outlets said that two more people had died.
The demonstrations resulted in the deaths of at least 23 people and the injuries of over 300 others in various regions of the country, the portal said.
Despite deadly protests, the IMF has insisted that Kenya implement extra taxes, local portal The Nation reported, citing a senior official at the fund.
