Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will attend the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan scheduled for October, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said on Wednesday.
"Yes, we confirm that the Iranian president, Raisi, he has been invited. We are making every effort so that he, as the president of Iran, as well as a new member of BRICS, will take part [in the summit] in our friendly country, Russia," Jalali told reporters on the sidelines of the international economic forum "Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum."
In January, Russia took over the presidency of BRICS, an association that, according to the decision of the 15th BRICS Summit in August 2023, now includes 10 countries. Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates joined BRICS as new full members.
The 16th BRICS Summit in 2024 is scheduled to be held in the Russian city of Kazan on October 22-24.
