Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially welcomed the initiative to create a ranking of universities in BRICS countries, the Kremlin announced.
President Putin has assigned this task to the Russian Rectors' Union, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Russian Academy of Education, which are to prepare their proposals by April 15.
The academic institutions will have to send them to the organizing committee that will oversee Russia's BRICS presidency in 2024.

On January 1, 2024, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa were joined by Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt as new full members of BRICS.
With the addition of the new members, the BRICS has grown to 10 countries with a population of 3.6 billion – nearly half the world's population. The countries account for more than 40% of global oil production and about a quarter of global exports.
