Zimbabwe Counts on Russia's Support in Its Bid to Join BRICS, Country's Minister Says

In January, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates became full members of the BRICS, which earlier consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. According to South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor, about 34 nations were interested in becoming part of the organization.
Zimbabwe counts on Russia's support in its bid to join the BRICS, the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Frederick Shava told Russian media.
The southern African nation has applied to join BRICS and is looking forward to the approval of its application, he said, adding that admission to BRICS will be an event of great significance for the country and the economy.

Moreover, Zimbabwe will be happy to host the Russia-Africa Summit if such a request is made, the minister added.
Earlier, South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor stated that approximately 34 nations have shown interest in joining the BRICS.
