Authorities in Moroccan city of Agadir on Sunday successfully intercepted a fishing boat intended for smuggling purposes, seizing a substantial quantity of narcotics totaling 10 metric tonnes and 542 kilograms of Chira, a potent form of cannabis resin.
The operation was carried out on the basis of precise information provided by the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
A joint operation involving local police, the Royal Navy, and the Royal Gendarmerie led to the apprehension of thirteen suspects allegedly involved in the illicit activity, according to official statements from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the DGST.
Following the interception, the competent prosecutor's office has assigned the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ), under the DGST, to conduct further investigations into the case. Their objective is to uncover both the international and national networks associated with the drug trafficking ring and identify potential connections to other global criminal syndicates.
In a press release, authorities emphasized the strategic importance of this operation in the ongoing battle against international drug trafficking. They highlighted the collaborative efforts of all national security services in combating such criminal activities effectively.
