The United States conducted a "collective self-defense airstrike" again the US-designated terrorist group al-Shabaab in Somalia over the weekend, the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said in a release.
"At the request of the federal government of Somalia, US Africa Command conducted a collective self-defense against the al Shabaab terrorist group on Mar. 2," the release said.
The airstrike took place in a remote area in the vicinity approximately 45km northeast of Kismayo, the release added
The initial post-strike assessment indicated that two al-Shabaab members were killed and that no civilians were harmed, according to the release.
