The High Court of Zanzibar ruled in favor of three companies importing beer to the island who were requesting to restrain the Zanzibar Liquor Control Board from interfering with their operations, the media reported.
The court ordered the board to issue import, sales and distribution licenses to the companies and not to suspend their permits or delay their goods before the final determination of ongoing appeals and legal proceedings, the outlet said.
According to the outlet, following the restrictions on the beer importers, the prices of the drink in Zanzibar skyrocketed, with some brands going up by as much as 300%. Tourism companies voiced their worries, leading to the start of legal proceedings.
