Zanzibar Investment Authority (ZIPA) said that a total of 296 projects, worth $4.5 billion, have been registered in the autonomy in the past three years, resulting in 17,000 job opportunities. About 38%, or 112 projects, belong to the thriving tourism sector, emphasizing its critical contribution to Zanzibar's economy.

"We have many exciting developments on the horizon, but one stands out in particular: the arrival of East Africa's first ever seven-star hotel on Pemba Island," Sharif Ali Sharif, the executive director of the Zanzibar Investment Authority, was quoted by the outlet as saying.
He reportedly expressed gratitude to the autonomy's President Hussein Mwinyi "for his visionary leadership in making this a reality."

Sharif also unveiled plans for a convention center with a capacity of 2,500 in the autonomy's Fumba Free Economic Zone, accompanied by versatile sports stadiums, the report says.
Over the past three years, Zanzibar has experienced a remarkable upturn in its investment sector. According to the ZIPA data, around 296 projects, with an estimated worth of $4.5 billion (Sh11.5 trillion), have been officially recorded during this period.
This influx of investment has consequently paved the way for the creation of 17,000 employment prospects. The thriving tourism industry accounts for 38% with 112 projects, signifying its important role in bolstering Zanzibar's economy.
