Namibia swore in its vice-president, Nangolo Mbumba, as interim president on Sunday following the abrupt passing of the southern African nation's president, Hage Geingob.
"I take on this heavy mantle cognizant of the weight of this responsibility to serve all people of Namibia with utmost dedication and commitment," Mbumba said in his first remarks following the inauguration.
He paid tribute to his predecessors and announced a minute of silence in memory of late President Geingob.
"It is poignant and reassuring to note that today, even in this time of heavy loss, our nation remains calm and stable. This is owing to the visionary leadership and foresight of President Geingob," Mbumba said.
