Algerian President Tebboune Encouraged to Run for Second Term

Tebboune, aged 78, has been in public service since 1969, serving twice as Algeria's housing minister and as the country's prime minister in 2017 before being elected president.

Algeria's parliament has urged President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to seek re-election in the 2024 presidential election, the media reported.
In response to the calls, Tebboune reportedly said, "If Allah gives me enough health."
'No Force Can Put Pressure on Algeria': Republic's President
Elected in December 2019 for a five-year term, Tebboune is eligible for a second and final term, as per the Algerian constitution.
In 2019, Tebboune won in the first round with almost 5 million votes (58.15%).
The Algerian presidential election follows a two-round system, with a second round held if no candidate attains a majority in the initial round.
