Russia Respects Results of Presidential Elections in Argentina

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On November 19, Argentines went to poll for in the second round of the presidential elections. The winner was Javier Milei, a self-described libertarian and member of the La Libertad Avanza alliance.

Russia respects the choice of the people of Argentina that elected a new president over the weekend, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Javier Milei of La Libertad Avanza alliance won the presidential election in Argentina.

"We, of course, respect the choice of the Argentine people. Argentina is a very important country in South America, and we have quite good relations with it," Peskov told reporters, adding that Russia stands for developing relations with Argentina.

Commenting on a number of statements made by the Argentine president-elect during the campaign, the official stated that Moscow had taken note of them, but will be guided by his remarks after the inauguration.
During the political campaign, Milei advocated the dollarization of the economy and a foreign policy oriented towards Israel and the United States. He opposed joining the BRICS and cooperation with China, Brazil and Russia.
Javier Milei, 53, is an Argentine economist and politician. In 2021, he entered politics and was elected as a national deputy representing the city of Buenos Aires by the political coalition La Libertad Avanza. On December 10, Milei will take over for the next four years from current President Alberto Fernandez.
