Maine Governor Janet Mills told reporters law enforcement officers found the body of the Lewiston mass shooting suspect, Robert Card, and he is dead.
"I stand here tonight to simply report that the Maine State Police have located the body of Robert Card in Lisbon. He is dead. I called President [Joe] Biden to inform him about this news," Mills said during a press conference Friday night.
On Wednesday night, 40-year-old Robert Card attacked a restaurant and a bowling alley in Lewiston. Eighteen people were killed in the attack and numerous others injured.
Previously, Maine State Police named Robert Card 4/4/1983 "a person of interest" and that "should be considered armed and dangerous". According to local media, Card has a history of military service and mental health issues.
Maine Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck said during the press conference that Card died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Card's body was found Friday evening at 7:45 p.m. Eastern Time near the Androscoggin River in Lisbon Falls, according to Sauschuck.
On October 25, a series of shootings in Lewiston, a city in the eastern state of Maine in the US, resulted in the loss of at least 18 lives, with 50 to 60 people sustaining injuries, local media reported.
