US House of Representatives to Vote on New Speaker on Tuesday, US Congresswoman Says

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - On October 3, a majority of the House of Representatives voted to remove Republican Kevin McCarthy of California as Speaker. It was the first time in the history of the United Sates that the Speaker of the House of Representatives was removed from office.

The vote on the election of a new speaker of the US House of Representatives will take place at noon on October17, Democratic Whip in the House Katherine Clark said on Sunday.
"Members are advised that House Republicans are now planning to vote on the election of the Speaker on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at approximately 12:00 pm [16:00 GMT]," the congresswoman said in a statement.

Due to ideological differences between the politicians, in particular, for compromising with the Democrats on the budget, Republican Matt Gaetz initiated a vote to remove McCarthy as speaker of the house. McCarthy lost his post on October 3.
Following this, on Saturday Republican conference chair Elise Stefanik reported that US Congressman Jim Jordan won the party's nomination as speaker in a secret-ballot vote. According to the US media, Jordan is considered one of Trump's closest supporters on Capitol Hill.
