Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Monday that he had ordered a complete blockade of the Palestinian exclave of the Gaza Strip, adding that there will be no more supplies of food, gas and energy.
"I ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip. [There will be] no electricity, no food, no gas, everything is closed," Gallant said in an address, as broadcast by national media.
On Saturday morning, Hamas fired over 3,000 rockets at Israel from the Gaza Strip and dozens of Hamas troops infiltrated border areas. In response, the Israeli military deployed forces to the southern territories to regain control from Palestinian forces and began launching attacks on Hamas positions in Gaza.
Amid the attacks, Israel declared a "state of war," and launched several wide-sacle military operations. Hamas spokesman Hazem Qasem told Sputnik that a ceasefire with Israel was no longer possible due to Israel's escalation of the conflict.
