Japan plans to allocate $30 billion in private and public investments to the African region over the next three years, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on Saturday, adding that his country aspires to become a partner that grows together with Africa.
Japan has fulfilled its commitment to support Africa's growth for 30 years and will continue to do so in the future, Kishida said in his opening remarks at an event marking the 30th anniversary of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).
TICAD was launched by the Japanese government in 1993 and has been co-hosted by the United Nations, the United Nations Development Program, the World Bank and the African Union Commission. The international forum focuses on the development needs of the African continent and promotes regional development, peace and security.
