Argentine President Alberto Fernandez has accepted an invitation to attend the BRICS Summit scheduled for August in South Africa, the Argentine Embassy told Russian media.
The diplomatic mission highlighted that this step is something the Latin American nation should undertake before joining the club.
Argentina, alongside with Iran, Egypt and Bangladesh, is presently on the waiting list of nations that have so far formally applied to join BRICS.
According to South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Naledi Pandor, a total of 23 leaders expressed their nations' desire to join the association by submitting official applications.
The top diplomat also stated that many more countries have demonstrated an interest in joining the club by making informal approaches about the possibilities of BRICS membership.
