Burkina Faso Establishes New Agency for Traditional & Alternative Medicine: Cabinet
The newly established Agency for Traditional and Alternative Medicine aims to valorize the country's "national medical heritage" and implement national policies on traditional care, the government said following a recent Cabinet meeting.
Key details:
The agency was formed by merging the Directorate of Traditional and Alternative Medicine and the Center for Traditional Medicine and Integrated Care. It will operate as a non-hospital public health establishment.
Authorities emphasize that achieving health sovereignty requires going beyond just importing infrastructure and products. It must focus on enhancing local, endogenous resources.
The cabinet also approved the creation of a permanent secretariat to combat AIDS, STIs, viral hepatitis, and tuberculosis, alongside the establishment of the Faso Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Faso CDC).
