Nigeria and AES Team Up to Revamp Joint Anti-Terrorist Force: Media
Nigeria is partnering with the AES to reposition the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in the fight against Boko Haram* in the Lake Chad region, local media reported, citing Nigerian defense spokesman Samaila Uba.
Established in 2015, the MNJTF initially brought together Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin. Niger later suspended its participation after joining the AES, which has since developed its own unified military force to coordinate security operations across Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.
Military leaders and experts are exploring diplomatic alternatives to maintain the coalition's effectiveness and address security challenges despite these shifting alliances, Uba noted.
“I assure you that we will begin to see the dividends of that high-level engagement very soon,” the Nigerian official was quoted.
