Russia is 'There to Assist, to Give Hand,' Says SA Pan-Africanist on 'Concrete' Outcomes & Commitments After Summit
The Russia-Africa summits and their outcomes are evidence of a non-extractive approach, Leader of the African People's Convention party Themba Godi told Sputnik Africa.
Over 75% of dealings between Russia and Africa are conducted in local currencies, helping countries escape the trap of being sanctioned at will by the US, he said.
On Western Structural Adjustment Programs
The politician said that those were designed to make conditions worse and development almost impossible.
"Africa's voice and weight must be felt in all these global institutions. All institutions dominated by America and the Europeans are not democratic."
On Sanctions
Godi noted that international law recognizes only UN-authorized measures as legal, while unilateral ones are not—something Zimbabwe has endured for more than 20 years.
"When you now want to coerce all countries to impose sanctions because you have imposed sanctions, that's imperialism."
