Africa is not poor; it is badly audited. While Africa possesses a massive resource base and a rapidly growing youth population, it remains heavily reliant on foreign debt, external currencies, and imported goods. To achieve genuine financial independence, Africa must confront hard questions about its economic architecture.
In a discussion with Christine Vihishima, lawyer and certified financial education instructor, she elaborated on how Africa's youth population, its resource wealth, and its economic sovereignty are not liabilities to be managed—they are assets to be unleashed. According to her, financial literacy is the difference between watching an economy and owning one.She concluded that the continent’s future depends on harnessing its own ingenuity, labor, and entrepreneurship to access larger global markets. To listen to the whole episode, tune in to the Pan-African Frequency podcast, brought to you by Sputnik Africa. In addition to the website, you can also catch our episodes on Telegram.► You can also listen to our podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Deezer, Pocket Casts, Afripods, and Podcast Addict► Check out all the episodes of Pan-African Frequency

Next Economic Superpower? What Would It Take for Africa to Get There?
Africa is not poor; it is badly audited. While Africa possesses a massive resource base and a rapidly growing youth population, it remains heavily reliant on foreign debt, external currencies, and imported goods. To achieve genuine financial independence, Africa must confront hard questions about its economic architecture.
In a discussion with Christine Vihishima, lawyer and certified financial education instructor, she elaborated on how Africa's youth population, its resource wealth, and its economic sovereignty are not liabilities to be managed—they are assets to be unleashed. According to her, financial literacy is the difference between watching an economy and owning one.
“Most importantly, as Africans, we should begin to believe that we have meaningful opportunities in our Africa. And that needs us to move from thinking primarily as consumers [...] It means that if we start to think as creators, as value creators, as entrepreneurs, as investors, and as owners, then our mindset now moves to, “What opportunity can I now create?” How can I create a business around this opportunity? And then how can I now scale this value that I'm creating to the rest of the world? [...] An economically powerful Africa to me is an Africa where we move from just being providers of raw materials to moving up the value chain and then developing industries, intellectual property, technology, our own financial systems, and a competitive business landscape. That is one thing. Another characteristic of an economically super-powered Africa would be where we have economic growth that actually translates into better lives for ordinary people,” Vihishima explained.
She concluded that the continent’s future depends on harnessing its own ingenuity, labor, and entrepreneurship to access larger global markets.
