The Russia-Africa Summit concluded with more than 60 agreements signed, covering intergovernmental pacts, memoranda, and commercial contracts with dozens of African countries.
For Nigeria, two agreements stand out: a federal customs pact leading to the inclusion of the Africa's giant in the Eurasian Economic Union's tariff preference system.
Nigeria's subnational government of Abia State, through its Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, also secured a youth cooperation deal with the Roscongress Foundation and a separate memorandum with the Ministry of Youth of Russia's Chelyabinsk Region.
But volume is not depth. And the question is not how many documents were signed in Moscow. It is what will be built in Nigeria and across Africa in the years that follow.
In this episode of the Redrawn Africa podcast, Raymond Chima Ukwa, Special Assistant to the Governor of Abia State on Youth and Sports, explains what the subnational deal is meant to achieve and how success will be measured.

"I think Africa has some of the largest populations of young people, and when you talk about all the young people in Africa, because when you speak of what is happening in the West, young people are now demanding things to be done right. So I think the agreements happening now are shaping the thought of the young Africans into pursuing progress in terms of the collaboration, which is quite needed, so what the youth track of the Ros Congress Foundation, for instance, is looking at is how we can begin to maximize the potential of young Africans. Many of them are creating amazing stuff in local areas," Ukwa said.
