Concrete trade, investment, and economic projects between Russia and Africa cannot progress until fundamental global obstacles are addressed, Isaias Afwerki told Sputnik Africa.

The Western-dominated global financial system and the "containment policy against Russia" must be overcome first, he said in an exclusive interview with Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow.

Key points from the president:

Systemic Obstacles: "You need to address the issues that are becoming an obstacle," Afwerki stated. "Do we have a financial system that functions to support any partnership?"

Rejecting Zero-Sum Politics: Criticizing the current global order as a "zero-sum" arrangement where one side's gain is the other's loss, he expressed hope Russia could establish fair trade relations over the next two to three years.

Defining the Rules: He stressed the importance of establishing the fundamental terms of any potential economic partnership with Russia, asking whether trade would be conducted in dollars, euros, or rubles, and emphasizing that the rules must be fulfilled first.
