Gabon Restores Social Media Access After 8-Month Ban
Popular social media platforms are operational again as of Saturday, to the country's High Authority for Communication.
Key details:
The government originally suspended the platforms in mid-February to curb the spread of fake news and illegal content, citing national defense and public order concerns.
The restrictions were lifted following the modernization of social media legislation. In October, Gabon introduced mandatory identity verification for all local users.
Authorities stated they have now established cooperation with the management of major global platforms to improve content moderation.
